Rhonda Gorman, President, Alliance Trucking

"The success of Alliance Trucking is partially due to the five years of financial support we received from Capital Associates."

With Alliance Trucking
At first glance, Alliance Trucking President Rhonda Gorman appears more like a bank executive than a dynamic owner of a heavy haul transportation company. But a longer look proves that a female at the top in a male-dominated industry can not only compete, but also thrive. With nearly two decades of experience in the truck brokerage business and 14 years owning transportation companies, Rhonda has earned the reputation as a seasoned professional who knows how to move freight and manage business. She currently employs 17 people who coordinate 100-plus loads per week at Medford-based Alliance Trucking, which she founded six years ago and acts as president.
Rhonda is not phased by the fact that she is one of the only Southern Oregon female owning and operating a truck brokerage firm. Like other women in business, she says the key to success is having passion for what you do and perseverance to get it done.
“If you put in a lot of hard work, you’ll get a lot out of it,” she explains, adding that she has finally scheduled vacations and time off for golf.
Rhonda started her transportation career as a truck broker where her energy and get-the-job-done personality won her a solid following in the industry. With her career in full force, Rhonda formed a partnership and began operating her own transportation business. Eight years later, Rhonda dissolved that partnership and changed her business name to Alliance Trucking. Early on, the Alliance team focused on flatbed transportation, but eventually earned its niche as a heavy hauler.
According to Rhonda, the success of Alliance Trucking is partly due to the five years of financial support she received from Capital Associates. She asked the alternative financing company for help with cash flow during her first few weeks in business. “I began factoring right away,” she says. “I already understood how it worked and knew that I needed their financial assistance. It was a wonderful experience. I truly believe it was one of the best decisions I ever made. It provided enough cash flow to pay truckers within 14 days and ensured we met payroll and paid bills.”
In addition to financial support, Rhonda says her association with Capital saved her company time on collections and credit checking. It also helped her win the trust of customers. “Capital provided me with a letter stating that they financially backed my company. While most trucking companies didn’t recognize the new Alliance name, they knew the Capital name and trusted it. As a result, I increased business using Capital’s good reputation.”
After five years of working with Capital Associates, Rhonda’s company was strong enough to operate on its own. When she officially went on her own, Rhonda remembers feeling both excited and sad. “I loved working with Roger and everyone else at Capital and so it was hard to let go. I give them a lot of credit for my success. Without factoring, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
While Alliance is going strong, Rhonda is looking to the future with ideas for diversification and expansion. “I see our business moving toward maritime and air freight services. I also plan to open branch locations around the country to better serve our clients.”

Roberta Davis, Manager of B & D Brokerage

"Capital respects our business and supports us in our efforts to grow!"

This past May, Roberta Davis, Manager of B & D Brokerage in Cherry Valley, Arkansas, secured the accounts receivable financing services of Capital Associates. It was the second time the three-year-old company called on a commercial finance company for help. The first time, Roberta explains, was difficult and uncomfortable. “We had problems and hassles from the start. If I called with questions about our business, I was made to feel like I was bothering the staff, as if they were too busy to deal with me. They also acted as if they owned the company and I had no rights to financial information.”

Roberta and company owner Michael Davis were so displeased with the original factoring company’s prices and services, they decided it was best to go on their own. But six months after calling it quits with the alternative finance company, new business prospects became available. To take advantage of new growth opportunities, they needed to improve their cash flow. With reservations, Roberta began searching for a commercial finance company that would provide her with a high level of customer service and reasonable rates. One day she received a mailer from Capital Associates. She liked what she read and called for more information. After talking with Capital’s Sales Manager, Jim Botsford, she was convinced she had found the right company to work with. “The overall attitude was right,” Roberta says. “Jim was easy to talk to. He understood my concerns and answered all my questions. It was such a relief.”

Since May, Roberta says she has enjoyed her relationship with everyone at Capital Associates. “They respect our business and support us in our efforts to grow. Whenever I call Tracy, my account manager, she is cordial and eager to get the information I’m requesting. There are no hassles and I feel well served and satisfied.”
